Operation Mincemeat: A Dead Man Fooled Hitler

In 1943, British intelligence dressed the body of Glyndwr Michael as the invented Major William Martin, set him adrift off Spain with fake invasion plans, and Hitler took the bait.

The Allies planned to invade Sicily, the obvious target. The fake letters pointed to Greece and Sardinia. Hitler ordered a panzer division moved to Greece, and German forces shifted away from Sicily.

Historians still debate how much the deception changed the outcome. Glyndwr Michael is buried in Huelva, Spain.
